THE LEGEND
The mythology of The House of Grace Huxley — clearly fictional, deeply felt.
The artisan's grandfather made only one piece like this — asymmetrical, because truth never falls evenly.
The four spirals crowning the stone represent the four directions of choice: what we pursue, what we release, what we protect, and what we transform. The single spiral below marks the path taken — the one direction that becomes your story.
The chrysocolla at its heart holds memory of sky and water — elements that witness everything but judge nothing. They have seen every decision made beneath them. They keep no record of right or wrong. Only of what was.
In 1967, the grandfather set down his tools after completing this piece. He told his family it would find its way to "the one who builds the house where stories live."
He described you perfectly. Fifty-seven years before you arrived in San Miguel.
This piece was never sold. It was inherited. It was waiting.
THE STORY
I returned to San Miguel de Allende for a piece I'd seen months before — one that had stayed with me. But when I stepped into Alan's stall, this one stopped me.
Four spirals above. One spiral below. Asymmetrical on purpose. The chrysocolla looked like an abstract painting — blue, green, blue-green, and black swirling together like a map of somewhere that doesn't exist yet.
I watched Alan work. His hands moved with the patience of someone who understands that some things cannot be rushed — that the wire must follow the stone's own architecture, that forcing the shape destroys the soul.
The Oracle's Compass is named for direction — for the woman who stands at crossroads and isn't afraid to choose.
One exists. For one person.
